Firsts are always hard. The thought of what is versus what actually is can really do a number on the mind!
Robert's first day was a bit rough because his assumption of carrying 50, almost 60 lbs on his back weighed its toll on his shoulders and back! He made it to Coopers Gap and had to drop some of his pack weight.
So after a day of ups and downs, wanting to quit, wanting to just be done, he persevered! He will continue tomorrow with less weight and more energy!
Keep going, Rob! You've got this!!!
The Trail starts teaching you lessons from the very first step! I'm sorry Rob had a rough first day. He's luckier than most because he had Karen to pick him up so he could regroup. Most hikers would have had to ditch their heavy supplies by the side of the Trail. Day One - first lesson learned. Forward and onward from here!
